A small thing to add to your 72 hour kit is a survival whistle. These don’t have to be the fancy kind that includes a compass and a light and can send up a flare, but just a simple whistle. I included a nice metal one into the adult packs, but the kids’ packs just have those plastic whistles that my children have received from birthday parties or Halloween (you know the ones that “disappear” overnight at any sane mom’s house).
