Now if you have your flashlights and would like to go to the next level add some candles and matches. Even if you don’t add these to your 72 hour kits, it is great to have a supply in your house.
When putting matches in your 72 hour kits, make sure they are waterproof in some way. Enclosed in a re-sealable baggie , then placed in an old film canister or prescription bottle, is an easy way to waterproof matches. Gluing a small piece of sandpaper to the top of the lid will ensure you can light the matches when you need to.
I found my emergency candles at the dollar store (six 6 hour candles for $1). I bought 6 packs because I knew that they wouldn’t “go bad.”
