In an emergency everything is disrupted, especially if you are downstream. Some important things to include in your 72 hour kit are garbage bags, toilet paper, and a small shovel. If basic sanitation isn’t taken care of then, illness is sure to follow. Garbage bags can be squished into many available spaces in your pack. Toilet paper can be flattened (you won’t be putting it on a hanger in the bathroom). And there are many small plastic gardening shovels or camping shovels that are perfect for this purpose.
